Muhammad Ali, the Ottoman viceroy of Egypt, defeated the Army of the Ottoman Empire at Nizib (an Area north of Edessa). The parties came to a truce and Muhammad Ali was made governor-general of Egypt and Syria with nominal fielty to the Sublime Porte.
