The Umayyad forces lay siege on Makkah. Abdullah b. Zubayr RA leads the defence against the Umayyads. The siege lasts two months month (24 Sept – 26 Nov). In between new reaches that Yazid I has died and Muawiyah II b. Yazid has become khalifah. The Umayyad forces withdraw.
